Welcome to the Department of Economics at the University of Montreal

The University of Montreal is located near the centre of the island of Montreal, in a green space running along the northern slop of Mount Royal. Our department is a short walk from the village of Côte des Neiges, founded in 1699 and today a cosmopolitan neighbourhood and bustling centre of student life.
The Department offers programs of study at the undergraduate, Masters and Ph.D. levels in all major areas in economics. Since its foundation in 1953, it has built a reputation for excellence in teaching and research.
According to a recent independent study financed by the European Economic Association, the Economics Department of the University of Montreal ranks among the first two economics departments in Canada. It is first in the world among French-language departments and second among non-English-language departments.
